Open Canvas sketches (wanna join?)

Journal Entry: Mon Dec 3, 2007, 8:53 PM
Omg I feel like I haven't updated in ages. Sorry, my art mojo was kinda taking a break... but it's back now! 8D

Anyway... I finally have Open Canvas. I won't use it as much as I use my beloved Photoshop though, but I will use OC for sketches [if I'm on the PC]. I was also challenged to design winter clothes [on OC]. See the designs here: [link]

edit...

Even though these Open Canvas sketches started out between me and *sora-jigoku, it'd be really cool if others joined in on the fun.

Basically we come up with themes and we sketch whatever we come up with those themes on OC4 (because that's what we both use), let OC4 record our progress, then afterwards show eachother what we've created.

If you don't have OC, that's ok... just use whatever you've got. It's preferable if you can use a program that records your every move (I believe some oekaki programs can do this?) because, well... it's interesting to see how people work/sketch. If you can't find one, then that's ok... but it should be coloured at the least.

Theme: Masquerade party
Requirements: Design costumes for a masquerade party including masks. 1x female. 1x male. No faces needed.
Deadline: Friday (around 7-8 December)

This isn't a contest and you don't win anything. These are only very quick sketches so even if you think you're busy, you can do this when you feel like sketching for 30 mins. If it wasn't for Sora challenging me with these themes, my art mojo would still be on hiatus. Basically, it's a means to get creative when you can't think of anything else to draw XD. It's also good for practicing poses...

And i don't know why the themes circle around fashion design when neither of us studied fashion. XD;; Maybe the themes won't be so fashion-centered in the future, but don't take my word for it. XD

Let me know if you're thinking of joining ^^

I can't use OC. I've tried, really, I have. But I need layers. I love photoshop far too much to learn to use anything else. But Cokey-chan loves OC and thinks photoshop is the devil.
:iconoo4:
I'm still trying to get used to it. I quite like the watercolour brush they have... but there were so many times when it was pissing me off that I couldn't use my photoshop cheats XD And I still can't figure out how to use patterns DX I wanted to use patterns so bad in my designs *shakes fist at my inability to learn quickly*
I wish my photoshop has a recording thingy like OC does... I'm hardly gonna use it since I hardly use the PC. The PC's not portable like my MAC... can't draw in my room where no one's watching me and/or harrassing me to start my aunt's bitch ass fam portrait OHO I SO DID NOT JUST SAY THAT 8D;;;;;;;;;

Open Canvas is a better drawing program then Adobe Photoshop imo. It offers even more stuff for drawing then Photoshop! AND I HAVE LAYERS in my Open Canvas D: ? (And more layer effect who work much better than the ones in PS).

I usually draw something fully in oC, save as a .pds and do the ending editing in PS. Which is 40 hours oC vs. 2 hours of PS XD oC wins!
:iconoo4:
oh yeah I used layers in OC but couldn't do my photoshop cheats with them D: Having to click on the menus all the time is so annoying whereas on Photoshop, I drag and drop a lot and use keyboard shortcuts and stuff like that. Need to figure out how to do that on OC... and use patterns omg. Do you know how to use the patterns on OC?

I think it's matter of what you're used to and what you're comfortable with. If I wasn't so broad with my "art", I would prob use OC, but I use photoshop for everything (drawing, designs, photomanips XDDDDD) so it's my comfort zone. I still have a lot to learn with OC though... (the brushes confuse me and omg patterns and tones = how do I use them?!?!) orz

Well I'm not much of a pattern user but you have to keep in mind that oC is a painting-program and Photoshop is originally not.
Like it says PHOTOshop is for photo-editing and not for drawing. xD There is a grid-pattern you can use next to the Pen-sensivity thingy, if you click it on it shows a simple pattern...but creating other things is still impossible in my view. All I can say is... switch over from time to time to the other program (don't use layer-effects then cuz oC renders then differently then PS).

oh and.. do you notice that oC draws much smoother then PS? In PS I can't draw perfect circles and I hate it.
:iconsora-jigoku:
for actual drawing a fusion of oC and PS are the best for me.
i like to do the basic drawing in oC, then save for PS and oC and work on with PS. sometimes i switch back to oC but the tragic point there is that i cannot save in PS for oC. so i have to save it as a jpg file and use it as a new layer from the previously saved oC file. confusing, aint it XD
but for sketching oC totally wins in my opinion 8D

=D I'll stick with with my photoshop, but only because... ;; It'd take me forever to learn another program all by myself. HAHAHAHA. What I know in photoshop so far already took me a few years. XD

BTW. OMG SHIROS OUTFIT. I wanna draw it. *_*
:iconpaintpops:
:O I use open canvas.
:iconoo4:
Ok I'll have to try that! (are we using the same version OC?)

I draw the same in both programs. You can make it smooth on Photoshop if you play with the brush settings. The only thing Photoshop doesn't have is the very nice watercolour brush on OC which I'm in love with XDD But for complete CG's I need Photoshop. I can't cross over programs because it's too annoying (I have to switch computers for that) =/
